Eyes cringing, breath coming in short sharp bursts, their vision narrowing, focused on the opponent, obscured as a fist or a body came rushing in. And suddenly the sky burst into view, his opponent wheeling out of sight, air rushing past him, sense rotating, aligning with the earth as he fell towards it.

And all was still. Vibrations of particles ceased, the sky beginning to darken as he ran out of light to reach his eyes. It was time, the end of another piece. As he closed his eyes, he came to realise this was his punishment, he would never fall, he would never strike the ground and feel that final impact. Eternity of torment began now, an eternity in defeat.

By every measure, he existed as of now, and not before. But knew everything, ever, and had been there to see all of it. This was never going to work, how would he make sense of anything, let alone explain it to anyone else. If it just didn’t make sense.

He spent some time moving. Moving to another place, another time. Sometimes forwards to places he wouldn’t go to yet. And sometimes backwards, to places he had never been, long ago.

He saw things, felt things, knew things. And realised he was here because he was wanted. It seemed an odd circumstance, to only be here because someone wants you here. But he had always been, without being here. Even before he was wanted. In the end it didn’t matter. Only at the beginning.

He was here now, He was here then, and before now as well. He moved. Away from places he would be. Away from places he was. And rested firmly in places he had been. He would watch from the beginning.

He looked at all he could see and spoke for the first time.

“Let there be light”.
